Presentation

Normally, when talking about recovery and extraction, the main raw materials are almost exclusively the ones that come to mind.

However, additives and adhesives play an important role in obtaining a final product with all the specifications required by the market.

In many occasions these substances, although added in a smaller percentage, can have a significant cost and, extracting and recovering them is equally or more important than the rest of the material in terms of economic cost, or even outside the matrix that contains them, they may represent a danger to the environment.

In plastic recycling, as in many other fields, extracting substances that can be used as additives can be a challenge, as it is often a challenge to extract, isolate and purify them from the containing matrix.

The extraction of additives and adhesives is an area that is present in many sectors, and of course in the recycling of plastics. Therefore, by means of different chemical recycling methods, it is possible to extract, separate and purify these additives and adhesives that are present in waste in order to introduce them back into the circular economy cycle.

AIMPLAS

Ingeniería de Materiales por la Universidad Simón Bolívar (Caracas, Venezuela).

Actualmente trabaja como Investigadora de AIMPLAS, con más de 8 años de experiencia en el diseño y formulación de materiales plásticos para cualquier tipo de aplicación, incorporando aditivos y cargas mediante un proceso de compounding en extrusoras multi-husillos. Las líneas de investigación actuales son: desarrollo de WPCs de altas prestaciones, reducción de peso mediante espumado y cargas huecas, uso de nanopartículas para el desarrollo de polímeros conductores, plásticos biodegradables, uso de antimicrobianos, y en general, mejora de propiedades mecánicas, reológicas, ignífugas, etc. de cualquier tipo de plástico.

Con experiencia docente en cursos universitarios, reglados y a medida para empresas (materiales plásticos, compounding, formulaciones de PVC, optimización de la producción y preparación de compuestos técnicos), tanto a nivel teórico como práctico.

AIMPLAS

Ingeniero Químico Superior con máster en Ingeniería Química. Ha trabajado como técnico de control de calidad de materias primas y producto en proceso en la industria de bebidas y docente auxiliar en la Universidad Simón Bolívar de Venezuela (USB) desarrollando nuevas prácticas de operaciones unitarias además de apoyo en el área de investigación conceptual.

Comenzó su actividad profesional en AIMPLAS en el 2021, desarrollando su actividad en el grupo de Tecnología Química, donde adquirió experiencia en la síntesis de polímeros tanto en reactores convencionales como extrusión reactiva, encapsulación y técnicas de caracterización.

Actualmente se encuentra dentro en el departamento de Reciclado Químico, participando el en desarrollo de distintos proyectos I+D+i de ámbito nacional como internacional; realizando simulación de procesos químicos, estimaciones tecno-económicas, modelado de procesos y técnicas de reciclado químico avanzado.

Chemical Engineer with a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. She has worked as a quality control technician of raw materials and product in process in the beverage industry and assistant professor at the Simón Bolívar University of Venezuela (USB) developing new practices of unit operations as well as support in the area of conceptual research.

She started her professional activity at AIMPLAS in 2021, developing her activity in the Chemical Technology group, where she gained experience in polymer synthesis in conventional reactors as well as in reactive extrusion, encapsulation and characterisation techniques.

She is currently working in the Chemical Recycling department, participating in the development of different national and international R+D+i projects, carrying out chemical process simulation, techno-economic assessments, process modelling and advanced chemical recycling techniques.
