Bioplastics, like renewable materials, are destined to play a crucial role in the circular economy, however, their limited variety compared with traditional plastics, as well as their inferior properties, limit their performance. Compounding can be a tool that goes beyond synthesis to obtain new properties and achieve the requirements demanded by the clients. For this, a thorough knowledge of plastic materials, additves, fillers or reinforcements and a mastery of the compounding process are indispensable to achieving high quality bioplastic compounds.

Objectives

  • To know how to do it -> how to use the equipment (co-rotating twin-screw extruder)
  • To know what to do it with -> what raw materials to use (bioplastics, additives, fillers and reinforcements)

Who is it aimed at?

  • The aim is to provide students with the basic concepts to be able to modify bioplastics and obtain new properties or improve existing ones in order to produce their own compounds.
